Characters

Lisa: Lisamarie Michelle Hill, Protagonist and narrorator.
Ma-ma-oo: Lisa's grandmother. She teaches Lisa to connect with the land and tells her to be cautious about her gift of seing ghosts and connecting with the spirit world. Ma-ma-oo also tells Lisa about her family history.
Ba-ba-oo: Lisa's late grandfather. He died before Lisa knew him. He was abusive towards his wife who holds no ill-will towards him.
Albert: Al, Lisa's dad
Gladys: Lisa's mom
Mick: Michael, Lisa's favourite uncle. Mick is very close to Lisa. He has a good relationship with his brother, Al and Ma-ma-oo. Mick is also close to Lisa's mom. While Mick does drink and smoke,he does not harm his relationships with those around him. Having lost his first wife, the possibility that he will leave again is always looming.
Jimmy: Lisa's younger brother.
Trudy: Lisa's aunt and Tab's mother. She is an alcohalic and has an on and off relationship with Josh.

She disrespects and verbally abuses her daughter when she gets drunk and she hates Ma-ma-oo. Her real name is Getrude, but she hates when people call her that.
Aunt Kate: Lisa's aunt and Erica's. Lisa doesnt like going to Aunt Kate's because she hovers over them too closely.

Uncle Geordie: Lisa's great uncle.
Aunt Edith: Lisa's great uncle's wife.
The little man: a spiritual being that appears to Lisa before something bad happens. She cannot understand her visions, and this makes her upset with the little man.
Frank: The school bully in the beginning of the novel, along with friends Pooch and Cheese. Later becomes Lisa's friend and as hormones kick in he becomes romantically interested in her. Although they both have feelings for eachother, they date other people throughout the novel.
Pooch: Lisa's friend, and for a short while towards the end of the book, boyfriend. Frank's cousin.
Cheese: Lisa's friend for a short period until he rapes her and they stop speaking. He is described by another character as creepy.Frank's cousin. 

Tab: Tabitha, Aunt Trudy's daughter, Lisa's closest friend and cousin. 

Erica: Aunt Katy's daughter. She is the popular girl of Lisa's school. Lisa's friendship with Erica is not the best. Erica is also Lisa's cousin
J.J.: Erica's older brother
Josh: Mick's friend, Trudy's on again off again boyfriend, and Adeline's uncle. Someone in the novel says that there's something not right about him. He ends up raping his niece, and then is killed by Jimmy.
Adeline: Described as strickingly beautiful. She grows up to be a hard drinker, fighter, and takes on the nickname Karaoke later in the novel. Adeline and Jimmy begin a romantic relationship close to the end of the novel. Adeline is also Frank's cousin and Josh's niece.

Ronny: Adeline's sidekick, Frank's cousin.
Mrs. Jenkins: Lisa's psychologist, who she sees once.
Cookie: Mick's A.I.M. wife. Mick and Cookie married through a medicine man, broke up and made up many times. Cookie was killed in a suspicious accident.
Mimayus: Lisa's grandmother's sister. She was beautiful, and left the village to be closer to a man that she loved. She died before Lisa knew her.
Bib: Frank's older brother
Julie: Frank's girlfriend towards the end of the novel.
Alexis: Lisa's cat, named after a character on Dynasty
Screwy Ruby: A poor woman in the village who chases coins when kids roll them down the street. Rumored to be a witch.
