Plot Summary

     Lisa Hill wakes up as her parents are getting ready to leave to help find her younger brother Jimmy, who is missing at sea. She decides to remain in the village at first and her parents leave withought her. As hours pass, Lisa decides that she wants to search for her brother aswell, however she cannot find a flight that will quickly take her to where her parents are. After ruling out all other options, she decides to take her family's motorboat on a long journey along the Pacific Ocean coast to get there. Along the way, she stops at Monkey Beach and something horrific happens. Lisa either almost drowns and is pulled to shore by her brother, almost drowns and gets a premonition from her dead brother to send a message to his girlfriend, or drowns and as she dies her brother is found.

     Entwined with this main storyline, is a series of memories in which the reader is informed about Lisa‟s life up until this point.
Lisa is born and raised in the village by her parents, aunts, her beloved grandmother, and her favourite uncle Mick. She grows extemely close to her uncle and grandmother and is completely crushed when they both pass away. After they pass Lisa leaves for Vancouver where she is quickly sucked into a life of partying, drugs, and alcohal. She soon loses herself in the crowd and becomes detatched from reality. One night after a party Lisa has a vision that her closest friend and cousin Tab, has died. She comes into contact with another old friend and returns to the village. Once home, she becomes very close to her younger brother who soon falls in love. Before Jimmy has the chance to propose to his girlfriend, he finds out that she was raped by another man. Furious, Jimmy takes a fishing job with the man and kills him on the ocean after sinking their boat thus becoming lost at sea.
